Excellence Playa Mujeres

Happy Wednesday!! How are we feeling on this fourth day of 2023?! I truly cannot believe we are already here. 2022 was filled with all things wedding planning and newlywed life for me, and it's crazy how fast it has all flown by. In exactly five months, Caleb and I will have been married for ONE year!

Today, I thought I would recap and share all about our honeymoon in Mexico! We stayed at the all-inclusive Excellence Playa Mujeres. It was about a 40 minute drive from the Cancun airport. I found this resort from Megan (Honey We're Home) after she went and blogged about her stay. Caleb and I looooved it and talk all the time about how much we want to go back one day. It's funny because neither of us are really beach people. We went to the beach a grand total of three times. Twice to snap a quick picture and once for dinner on the beach. The rest of our time was spent by the pool or eating. #wearewhoweare

Our flight left early on Monday morning, and we had the whole afternoon to spend at the resort. (I highly recommend NOT leaving for you honeymoon the day after your wedding. We spent that Sunday napping and packing. It was very much needed!) When we got to the resort, they weren't able to find our reservation, which we believe was at the fault of the travel agent we used and nothing to do with the resort itself. However, everyone on staff was wonderful and very apologetic. They even gifted us a "Romantic Dinner on the Beach" for the inconvenience.

We did the Excellence Club package and had a private check in.

Plus, everyone gets champagne upon arrival! There are tons of perks with the Excellence Club package, and it was so nice to have those things, but I think your stay could still be just as wonderful without doing it.

While they were getting our room situation sorted out, they told us to go grab lunch. We went to The Grill, which ended up being our favorite lunch spot the whole week. It's right over the pool, so the views were wonderful!

After we got into our room, we unpacked and got in the plunge pool on the second floor of our room.
Our suite type was Excellence Club Two-Story Rooftop Terrace Suite Ocean Front. We were tired from a long day and ordered room service for dinner.

On our first morning, we grabbed breakfast in the Excellence Club restaurant. I think it's called Magna. We also did a little exploring around the resort before heading to the pool. If I remember correctly, on this day we found one of the private pools we had access to with Excellence Club. These pools were smaller, but they were secluded. They also had extra sunscreen and cold water bottles. We did enjoy having that little area almost completely to ourselves. There is a swim up bar near the outside restaurants, and that area was more lively. There definitely were other spots by the pool that were quiet.

That night we had our dinner on the beach! It was super windy but so much fun.

The next morning, we went back to Magna for breakfast and then to the pool. They had these cute hammocks right in the water! Lunch was at The Grill, and for dinner we chose the Italian restaurant. I didn't love what I got but Caleb's was good.

After dinner, we went to the Martini Bar. We made friends with one of the bartenders, and he kept bringing us random things to try! This was definitely one of our favorite parts of the resort!

So yummy!

After probably way too many chocolate martinis for me and PB&J martinis for Caleb, we slept in the next morning. I got room service breakfast while Caleb slept a little longer. Once we got up and going, we went to the spa! With Excellence Club, we got a complimentary Aqua Hydrotherapy treatment. If we do go back, I would love to get a massage or facial instead. After the spa, we had a late lunch at The Grill and afterwards went back to the plunge pool in our suite. We went to the French restaurant for dinner and weren't totally impressed with this one. After dinner, we were back at the Martini Bar!

While we were there, it was still required to get a Covid test 24 hours before leaving. Our test was in the morning on our last full day. After our tests, we grabbed a quick breakfast at The Lobster House (right next to The Grill) before heading our for a day of golf. Caleb loves to play golf, and I ride or drive the cart. And take lots of pictures.🙂

This one hole had an ocean view! The course was beautiful, but dang it was hot!

We left the resort around 11:30 and got back around 4:45. We were starving so we got changed and ready super quick and went to Spice for dinner. This was our very favorite dinner! We still aren't really sure if it was because we were so hungry or if it was really that good! We got zero pictures of that food, but I know we had a really good sushi, fried rice, and some kind of chicken. I don't remember exactly, but I do remember that it was sooo good! And of course...

...we made one last trip to the Martini Bar on our last night.

While we were there, we were already talking about going back. We really really loved it and highly recommend it!

Let's Look: September 2024

Hey, friends! I hope you are having a great week so far! Today is the September edition of Let's Look. But before I get into that, I want to talk a bit about today, September 11. Today is the 23rd anniversary of the attacks on 9/11. I was only one year old when this happened, so I obviously do not remember where I was or what I was doing or anything from this day. All I know is because of the people who continue to honor to victims and the heroes of this day. I have had the honor of visiting the memorial and museum in NYC twice now, and both times I have been were such an incredible experience. Visiting there is heavy. It is sad. It's informative. It's also beautiful to see how our country came together in such an awful time. I love this picture that I took on my last visit. The leaves in the picture are from a tree that survived everything from that day 23 years ago. It was transported to a greenhouse for a while, but it was eventually moved back, and I loved that I could...
