Let's talk about my first dip nail powder experience! I've mentioned a few times that I recently got dip powder on my nails for the first time, so let's walk through what the whole process looked like for me.
If you've been here a while, you may know that I'm allergic to gel nail polish. Long story short, I was doing my own gel nails at home and was probably not curing the polish long enough, which led to me developing an allergy. If I use gel polish on my finger nails (for some reason I don't have this issue on my toes???), my fingers swell, get super itchy, and then I get a contact dermatitis rash on my neck. So, gel is out of the question for me. I have even stopped using it on my toes just to be on the safe side.
My sister has been getting dip on her nails for the last several years, and she finally convinced me to try it out. I was afraid that dip would give me the same allergic reaction that gel does, so I was a little scared to try it at first. Well, a couple weeks ago, I decided I would just go for it and see what happens. When I woke up the next morning and my nails were not trying to kill me, I was SO happy 😂. I got my first dip manicure at Euro Nails in Madison, MS, and I highly recommend them!
Ok, so here's my first dip manicure! I got OPI Strawberry Margarita. Not the best picture, but this was the day after I got them done. The lady that did my nails cut a couple of my cuticles too much, so that hurt just a touch, but I put hydrogen peroxide on to be safe. My nails felt a little tight the first two or three days, but past that nothing bothered me at all.
My one complaint is that the nail lady shaped my nails a little funky, and I did not ask her to do that. Maybe I should have told her to leave them the shape they already were??? I like my nails more squared off, not rounded.
From this angle, they do look slightly squared off. (Also, this was about a week after I got them done- still looking really good! I could tell they were starting to grow out a bit but nothing too noticeable.)
But from the sides, they are pretty rounded. Maybe I'm being too picky, maybe I'm not. Either way, it didn't bother me too terribly bad, but I guess I'll ask for square next time.
Here is my manicure about two and half weeks after getting them. They were very grown out and starting to get on my nerves 😂.
And here's my second dip mani! This is OPI Funny Bunny. I went to a place in Starkville, and I'm very sad to report that this manicure does not look good.....it looks like my untrained self did it at home. Boo. The salon I went to is supposed to be one of the best in town, but I have to disagree. From far away, they don't look too bad, but up close is a different story.
See? They just don't look salon quality to me. Plus, the girl that did them started bringing out her gel lamp, and when I asked if I could just have the regular top coat instead of gel since I'm allergic, she looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about. She put two coats of a regular top coat, but I'm not sure if that's what the salon in Madison did. I'm not entirely sure if there's a different, specific dip top coat or not. Also, she did nothing to my cuticles....
There are tons of other salons here in Starkville that I'm willing to check out, but for now I'm going to take a dip break and continue doing my regular nail polish at home. I think I'll save the dip for special occasions! I do really enjoy doing my own nails, but every now and then I want something that will last longer than a few days.
Thanks for reading! Have a happy Wednesday!
