It's finally time for another BOOK REVIEW! I planned to read a lot more this month, but I just didn't. However, I did read two really great books!
Here they are....
The Crash by Freida McFadden
Ok. WOW. I chose to read this because it was the March pick for Shay's book club. She said it was a thriller, and I always like a thriller.
This book had me hooked from the very start. I started it one night before bed and then all the next morning and finished it that afternoon. It was SO good.
Without spoiling it....it's about a woman who gets in a car crash during a blizzard, and she experiences some SUPER unfortunate (but very thrilling for those reading!!) events for four days.
If you like a thriller, I really can't recommend this one enough!
The House of My Mother by Shari Franke
***(Trigger warning: this book mentions and details multiple types of abuse of minors- physical, mental, sexual. My review only briefly mentions that abuse took place.)***
I think everyone has probably heard the name Ruby Franke, right?? The Franke family made it BIG on YouTube several years ago with their family vlog channel, 8 Passengers. I watched their videos from time to time, so I was somewhat familiar with their family.
When I saw the news back in 2023 that the mother Ruby had been arrested, I got super invested in the story. I knew a bit about her extreme parenting philosophy, but I didn't know quite how bad it had gotten.
In this book, oldest of six sibling Shari details her life and family leading up to her mother's prison sentencing in 2024. Behind the scenes of the YouTube channel, years of abuse and neglect were the building blocks for Ruby's eventual partnership with Jodi Hildebrandt and Connexions. I won't go into much detail, because it is truly so awful. A quick Google search (or TikTok) of Ruby will tell you a whole lot.
This story is absolutely gut wrenching. The book is phenomenally written, and I really enjoyed hearing Shari's story in her own voice- I listened to the book on Spotify. This was the first time I have listened to an audio book, and I can see why people enjoy it. Especially when it's a true story read by the author! If you want to know more about the Franke family, give this one a read- or listen!
I truly loved both of these books and highly recommend them!! What should I read next???
Have a great day!
Oh those both do sound like such great books... though I admittedly never heard of Ruby Frank or 8 Passengers.
