I read some fabulous books this month. Last month I said I had found my #1 book of the year already, but one of today's books really rivals it!
Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry-
Friends fans, read this! Those of you with loved ones struggling with addiction, read this! If YOU yourself might be struggling with addiction, read this! If you just love to read, read this!
I was so surprised by this book in so many ways. I absolutely loved it. I think it could fight Maame for that #1 spot for the whole year. We'll see.
I laughed, I cried, I gained TONS of respect for Mr. Perry himself, as well as his friends that noticed he was not okay and got him the help he needed. I have a whole new perspective on my favorite show of all time. I've seen Friends upwards of like 25 times, and I never would have guessed the struggles Matthew Perry was facing in real life. But now knowing what the man behind the beloved Chandler Bing was going through off screen gives me a whole new point of view of his cracking jokes and falling in love with Monica Gellar.
This book was amazing. Perry did a wonderful job of telling his life story, and I can't imagine it was easy for him to do so. He was so vulnerable, yet still so funny.
This is a book that I will recommend forever and ever.
For a funny little tidbit...not even five minutes after I closed the book, "I'll Be There for You," by The Rembrandts came on the radio at work. How's that for perfect timing?!
The Husbands by Chandler Baker-
I put this book on my list after reading Shay's review on it last month. When I started reading it, I had kind of forgotten what all she said about it. So, I was quite surprised when it started turning a bit...eerie. I went back and reread her review and was like oh, okay. Nice. She said once she got to a certain point she had to quit reading it at night. Yikes.
OK, here is my take: I didn't think it was all that scary. It was a little bit eerie towards the end but nothing too bad in my opinion.
It was very Desperate Housewives meets Stepford Husbands (instead of wives). It was weird but really good. I would definitely recommend it if you like drama and mystery. I read it in only a few days, because I was so drawn in and had to know what the heck was going on with these crazy people.
Verity by Colleen Hoover-
It was um. Disturbing. To say the least.
The Husbands didn't really scare me, but Verity sure creeped me out.
I don't know if all of Colleen Hoover's book are like this, but if they are, who hurt this poor woman?
I did not like this book. But I could not put it down. I had to know what happened next. I finished most of it one day, mainly because I was ready to be done with it. Every noise in my house that night freaked me out, and it took me forever to go to sleep.
The Kindle version doesn't include the later added epilogue, but I found it in a Twitter thread. I really wish I had not. Of course, I had to read it, but it was super disturbing too.
Yeah, no thank you Colleen Hoover. I'm not a fan.
I started a few other books but just could not get into any of them. Yesterday I actually did start a book series that I read yeeeeaaarrrsss ago, so we'll see if I stick with that!
Any recommendations for me??? I hope you all have a fabulous Thursday!

What perfect timing for "I'll Be There For You"! I've avoided Verity, but recommend Reminders of Him by CoHo.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that's good. I'll add it to my list!
