My 2023 Reading in Review

At the beginning of the year, I made a goal for myself to read more books. In the past, I would read maybe one or two books a year, but in 2023 I read TWENTY TWO books. For me, that's huge!! I enjoyed reading throughout the year, I read books I hated but couldn't put down, I loved books that others disliked, and I disliked books others loved. Here's a look back on everything I read....

January Book Review

February Book Review

March Book Review

April Book Review

May Book Review

June Book Review

July Book Review

My August, September, and October reading was put on the back burner, so my very informal review of the one book I read in those months can be found in this post here.

I started a few different Christmasy/Romance novels in November, but I'm just bored of those for right now, so I didn't finish any of them. This year, I found that I really really like historical fiction!

Once Upon a Wardrobe was my read for December, and I absolutely LOVED it!!

Wow. Just wow. That's basically all I have to say about this one. If you need a good cry, give this book a read. Patti Callahan will you take you on a journey of a lifetime where she details all that led C.S. Lewis to write The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I'm not sure if it's all completely true, but from what I understand it's at least loosely based on the truth. I just loved this story. Really, really loved it!

Ok, here are my TOP 5 BOOKS FOR 2023

5. Once Upon a Wardrobe by Patti Callahan

4. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

3. The Rose Code by Kate Quinn

2. Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry

1. Maame by Jessica George

All five of these books amazed me and entertained me the entire time I read them! I fell in love with the characters, the narrators, the storylines. I so enjoyed their journeys, whether they were real or made up. I truly loved these books, and it was really hard to put them in any sort of order. If you haven't read any of them, I very highly recommend them.

Now, my goal for 2024 is to read EVEN MORE!! I've already started a list, but if you have any other recommendations, I'd appreciate it! Have a great Thursday!

Friday Favorites {6.6.25}

 Happy Friday, friends!! How was your week? One of my summer classes started this week, so I have been getting back into a bit of a routine which is nice! As always, I am linking up with Erika and Andrea to share some faves from the week.  How cute is our new wreath sash?? My mom got it for us, and I am obsessed! Lots of food faves this week.... Another salsa I am now obsessed with! I found this at Aldi, and y'all it is SO good! I used it in a recipe, but I am definitely going to get another jar to eat for a snack or with lunch or dinner! Now for a Tik Tok "recipe". I used quotations, because it's really just a chop/open a can and throw together situation. Corn, black beans, pinto beans, onion, tomato, cilantro. I ate it with tortilla chips for lunch this week. It was so good! Next time, I would add more tomato and use less onion (maybe even no onion at all), and I should have chopped up the cilantro a little better! I also squeezed in some lime juice and added salt a...

Friday Favorites {8.29.25}

 Happy last Friday of August! As always, I am here to link up with Erika and Andrea to share some faves from my week.  To be honest, it feels out of touch to make this post. After the devastating news of yet another school shooting, my heart is so heavy. Innocent lives taken and still no changes from people in power. I honestly do not know how anyone can see news like this and not be enraged and demanding for change. I do not get political on here, because that is not what I want for this space. However, I feel the need to share my thoughts about this. America needs gun control. ALL Americans need access to healthcare, especially when it comes to mental health. America needs change. Remember these things when you vote. Think about your babies, their friends, their teachers. Stay aware, stay educated. But also please make sure you spend time doing things that bring you joy (it's good for your mental health!). That is at least what I am going to do. With that being said, here ar...
